The Ayurvedic term for this condition of the skin is Dadru. Since it is affected by the ring worm, the affected sections appear like small circular portions.
SYMPTOMS OF RING WORM AFFECTION
The affected portion turns scaly and reddish.
Itching takes place.
The portion assumes a circular appearance.
POST-HEALING APPEARANCE OF THE AFFECTED PORTION
A vesicular border appears on the circumference of the circle.
The central zone, however, recovers the natural skin.
STRICT DIETARY REGIMEN MUST
The patient must avoid taking the following food items:
All forms of sour items like curd and pickles.
OTHER IMPORTANT POINTS
The person should follow a healthy and hygienic lifestyle.
Cure constipation by consuming Triphala powder every night before retiring to bed.
Don’t burn the midnight oil.
Go to bed early and be an early riser as well. It is advisable to get up before the sun rises.
NEEM LEAF: AN IDEAL MEDICATION
He/she must bathe in water boiled with neem leaves.
If neem leaves are not readily available, then the person should opt for a soap that is prepared with neem as the primary agent.
He should regularly have tender leaves of the neem tree early in the morning on an empty tummy. The person should have the leaves plucked afresh also in the evening.
Apply a paste prepared from freshly plucked, washed and crushed neem leaves over the affected portion(s); Put the paste at night.
THE EARLY MORNING HEALTHY REGIMEN
Drink 500 ml of water on an empty tummy after getting up in the morning. Then attend to nature’s call. Brush your teeth, have bath.
Then, consume the raw neem leaves.
Practise meditation; train up your mind to concentrate on the affected portions. Think and believe that the body’s natural power is curing the ailment(s). It really works. Do the meditation in the Yogic method.
Do light freehand exercises.
You can also do the prescribed Yogic asanas.
One can also go for brisk morning and evening walks for 30 minutes each time.
AYURVEDIC TREATMENT
For the chronic patients, the following Ayurvedic medications are recommended:
Shuddha Gandhaka, Edgaja and Dadrughna lepa or Paradadi malham.
However, all of the medicines, irrespective of whether they should be consumed or applied externally, should be continued for at least six months even after the symptoms of ring worm infection disappears. This is required to forestall all possibilities of the infection recurring. When one keeps on consuming or applying the respective medicines for the stated period, the germs of ring worm are neutralised.
SHUDDHA GANDHAKA
Shuddha Gandhaka is one of the most effective Ayurvedic mediations in such conditions.
The Dose : Mix 0.2 gram of Shuddha Gandhaka with a teaspoonful of honey. The patient should consume the medicine twice daily.
EDGAJA
Edgaja is a drug prepared from the plant having the same name. Edgaja needs to be applied externally.
Preparation process : Collect 10 Edgaja seeds. Grind them into the powdery form. Put water into the powder and turn the concoction into a paste.
Application mode : Apply it on the affected portions and allow it to remain in that state for atleast a night.
DADRUGHNA LEPA OR PARADADI MALHAM
Dadrughna lepa or Paradadi malham is recommended for patients suffering from the acute form of ring worm infection. These are medicated ointments.
Application mode : They should be applied on the affected portions thrice daily. Mentionably, prior to applying the ointments, the affected portion should be cleaned with water.
