Sterility in females prevents the woman from enjoying motherhood. Sterility comes in the way of conception.
SYMPTOMS OF FEMALE STERILITY
Sterility in females results in impairment of the main reproductive organs like the uterus, the fallopian tubes, and the ovaries besides others.
As a result, the foetus cannot get the required amount of sustenance in the mother’s womb. It may even be in the form of non-production of mature ova. Due to these impairment, the fertilized ovum (after union with a sperm) may not be able to find an ideal position for development. Hence, the woman would not be able to attain motherhood.
CAUSES OF FEMALE STERILITY
There can be many causes of female sterility. The defects in the reproductive organs may be two types: functional or organic (structural). In the second instance, surgical treatment is the only way out. However, with reference to the functional defects, Ayurveda has effective treatments. These Ayurvedic medications should be taken along with strict dietary regimen and certain other habits which may be required to be adopted by the patient (if he/she has not been accustomed to them).
AYURVEDIC EXPLANATION
This condition is called Bandhyatva in Ayurvedic terminology. Such functional (not the structural) defects are caused due to the aggravation of the Doshas.
DIETARY REGIMEN
Such patients should regularly have sweet things and fruits.
WHAT NOT TO EAT
The patients should stay from all forms of pungent and alkaline food items.
OTHER IMPORTANT POINTS
One of the main causes of sterility is excessive accumulation of fat. This, in turn, leads to increase in weight which is not in consonance with the height and age of the patient.
Hence, ensure that the weight is checked.
This can be done via regular exercises including the yogic byams (exercises), medication and Pranayama (breathing exercises).
The patient should also dedicatedly follow a strict dietary roster having the required calories sans the fat.
AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS
There are four effective Ayurvedic medications to treat female sterility. These are Bala, Shilajit, Vanga Bhasma, and Phala ghrita.
BALA
Bala is a multi-purpose medication. The medication — Bala — is prepared from the plant that goes by the same name. Bala can be used internally as well as externally.
Preparation procedure : Select the root of Bala. Clean it and boil it oil and milk. This medicated oil can be used for both the aforementioned purposes.
External Use and Effects : The medicated oil can be used externally as a douche (jet of liquid applied to part of the body for cleansing or medicinal purposes). This can be readied by using the medicated Bala oil with lukewarm water.
Regular application of the oil at the genital tract effects an effective change in the genital tract especially in its mucous membrane. It helps the process of fertilisation. The ovum and the sperm find a congenial environment to first make union. The fertilized egg, then, also develops in the normal course of action.
Internal use/ The Dose : The patient should have a teaspoonful in the morning along with a cup of milk.
SHILAJIT
Shilajit is one of the commonly prescribed medications for the female patients suffering from sterility. Regular consumption of the dosage ensures quick rectification of the functional defects in the genital organs.
The Dose: The patient should have a teaspoonful twice daily.
VANGA BHASMA
Vanga Bhasma is another effective Ayurvedic medication to treat female sterility.
The Dose: Mix 0.125 gm of the medication with half-a-teaspoon of honey. The patient needs to consume the medicine twice daily.
PHALA GHRITA
Phala ghrita is yet another popular Ayurvedic
