Services and Facilities

AVS offers a comprehensive range of Ayurvedic treatments and therapies. The services include the manufacture of over 550 classical and new generation formulations at its three well-equipped medicine manufacturing units located in Kottakkal, Kanjikode, and Nanjangud. The institution operates 27 branches and around 2000 authorized dealers across the country, ensuring the availability of medical consultation and authentic medicines.

  • Navarakizhi: A therapeutic massage using boiled navara rice bundles for neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Dhara: A treatment for neuro-psychiatric disorders, involving the pouring of medicated oil on the forehead.
  • Pizhichil: A treatment where warm medicated oil is continuously poured on the body, effective for joint disorders and neuromuscular strength.
  • Sirovasti: Retaining medicated oil within a leather cap on the head, beneficial for head and neck diseases.
  • Tharpanam: An ophthalmological treatment involving medicated ghee poured into eye sockets to nourish and treat various eye conditions.

Research and Development

AVS is deeply involved in clinical research, focusing on cancer and new drug development. The institution’s Research & Development Department works on the modernization of Ayurvedic drug production and quality control. The Centre for Medicinal Plants Research (CMPR), recognized as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ by the Department of Ayush, Government of India, conducts advanced research on medicinal plants. AVS also maintains herbal gardens for the planned cultivation and conservation of medicinal plants.

Academic Contributions

The Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier Ayurveda College, affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences, offers graduate and postgraduate courses in Ayurveda. The college, established as Arya Vaidya Patasala in 1917, has a rich history of academic excellence and continues to receive financial support from AVS.

Cultural and Charitable Endeavors

AVS extends its cultural contributions through P.S.V. Natyasangham, a Kathakali troupe initiated by the founder. The charitable hospital at Kottakkal offers free Ayurvedic and allopathic treatments, medicines, accommodation, and food to deserving patients.
